Most Americans love beef and take their beef shopping very seriously. You will notice different meat labels while beef shopping. For instance, natural and organic are the most common types of labels. Although, you might believe that “natural” and “organic” mean the same thing when it comes to beef. However, the terms cannot be used interchangeably as there are different certification standards for meat to be labeled as either “natural” or “organic”.

To make it simpler, all “organic” products are “natural”, but not all “natural” beef products are “organic”. However, what matters the most is where you buy your beef from. For instance, Nebraska Star Beef has the best beef options and ensures premium-quality products!

Natural beef

As per the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), natural beef is beef that is minimally processed or the least processed with no alterations to the meat on a fundamental level. Plus, there should be no artificial ingredients. A point to note is that this definition does not include the standards beef producers follow to raise the animal. If the meat contains colors or other additives, it will not fall under the natural beef category.

Remember, what you perceive as ‘natural’ may not be officially ‘natural’. Therefore, you should understand where your beef comes from and how it’s obtained.

Organic beef

There are more complicated and strict standards pertaining to organic beef than natural beef. As per the USDA, organic beef has to meet certain extra standards than natural beef.

For instance, ranchers raising organic cattle must not use feeds treated with antibiotics. They should also adhere to non-chemical practices at the farm, for example, not spraying pesticides on the grass.

For grass-fed ranchers, it is more challenging to attain the organic label because of the above-mentioned standards. Their grass fields must be certified organic in order to get their meat certified the same.

USDA has accredited 48 agencies that can certify beef producers. Most labels mention the agency that certified their company. Make sure the product has been certified by an accredited agency. The label should not be for the sake of marketing. Closely study the packaging before you make the purchase.

Note: Even the best cuts of beef, organically or naturally obtained, will not give you the flavor or taste you want if you don’t cook or season it well. In order to elevate your cooking, you should cook your beef using the best season rubs from Nebraska Star Beef. It will magically transform the overall flavors and texture of the dish. Plus, Nebraska Star Beef has a wide variety of beef cuts and seasoning mixes, allowing you a plethora of options to choose from.
