One of the most challenging tasks associated with meat is storing it properly and maintaining long-term freshness. Plus, you need to ensure that the taste and texture of the meat remain the same. The risk of bacteria proliferation in raw food makes the task more complicated. However, if you follow a few simple precautions, you can safely store your raw cut of beef from Nebraska Star Beef for an extended period.

Below, we have talked about storing meat for long-term freshness!

Can you store meat in anything other than butcher paper?

Store the meat tightly wrapped to minimize exposure to air. We recommend using a vacuum sealer to package unused beef, especially if the beef is going to be refrozen. Storing in butcher paper is great for the refrigerator for a short period of time; you can also store the meat tightly wrapped in a Ziploc bag.

If you want to freeze it, tight wrap the meat in plastic wrap and seal it in a Ziploc bag.

How to store meat if you have already opened it and used half of it?

Vacuum sealers are the best way to repackage used beef for long-term storage. However, it is best to use all the beef once the package has been thawed. Repetitive freezing and thawing will cause a loss of texture and flavor.

What is the best time to freeze meat?

We recommend putting meat in the freezer while it is still fresh. Give yourself a window of a day or two to thaw and cook the meat before it spoils. Generally, you can store meat in the freezer for up to a year.

What is the best way to thaw meat?

Gently thaw the meat to avoid degrading the quality of the meat. Ideally, plan one day ahead and shift the meat from the freezer to the refrigerator. However, some meat pieces, like brisket and large roasts, take more time to thaw.

If you did not plan ahead, rapid-thaw the meat in a bowl of cold water.

Is thawing in the microwave okay?

We do not suggest it.

Pro tip: When using the meat for cooking, use only the best season rubs from Nebraska Star Beef to elevate the taste! Plus, Nebraska Star Beef has a wide variety of meat products to suit your palette.
