Equipment

  • Large Stock Pot
  • Large Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

Wontons

  • 1 lb Nebraska Star Beef® All-Natural Ground Beef
  • 1-2 pkgs. Wonton Wrappers (approx. 60-70 wrappers depending on size of the wonton)
  • 3 oz Mushrooms finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic finely chopped
  • 2 stalks Green Onions finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Ginger finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Sherry Cooking Wine
  • 2 tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1/2 tsp White Pepper

Broth

  • 6 cups Low Sodium Chicken Broth or Bone Broth
  • 3 cloves Garlic finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Ginger finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Sherry Cooking Wine
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil

Topping (optional)

  • 2 stalks Green Onions finely chopped
  • Bok Choy roughly chopped

Instructions

Wontons

  • Combine the Nebraska Star® Beef All-Natural Ground Beef with chopped mushrooms, garlic, green onions, and ginger. Add in soy sauce, Sherry, sesame oil, kosher salt and white pepper. Use your hands to mix ingredients together for several minutes until the mixture becomes sticky.

  • Next, lay out several wonton wrappers (in diamond form) at a time to fill. Add a heaping teaspoon of the beef mixture into the middle of each wrapper. Wet your fingers with water and run them along the top half (two sides) of the wrapper. Fold the bottom up to meet the top and press down firmly to prevent the wontons from opening later when boiling. Then bring the two ends down to the bottom and tightly cross them (wet one of the ends so they stick). There are many ways to wrap wontons, so feel free to try whatever you’d like.

  • Repeat until you are out of filling. You may end up with 50 – 70 wontons depending on the amount of filling you put in. Wontons can be kept in the freezer if you do not wish to use them right away.

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the wontons. Cook for about 4-5 minutes or until they float to the top. If you are using frozen wontons, they may take a couple of minutes longer. Remove wontons and add them to individual soup bowls.
